Roentgenological analysis of osteoporosis of hip fracture



Abstract
This is roentgenological analysis of osteoporosis of 37 cases of hip fracture which were treated at the department of orthopedic surgery, St. Mary¢¥ s Hospital during the period of Jan. 1965 to July 1969.
The cases were analyzed for degree of osteoporosis according to Manmohan¢¥s trabecular pattern and Nordin¢¥s peripheral index of femur, in addition, cause of fracture and correlation with age and sex were reviwed.
1. There were 17 males and 20 females. 23 cases were over 51 years of age, including 15 female cases.
2. The cause of fracture was severe trauma in 12 of 14 cases under 51 years of age, and was mild trauma in 16 of 23 cases over 51 years of age.
3. All cases over 51 years of age except one, were interpreted as osteoporosis, and remaining one showed the borderline picture in trabecular pattern.
4. Nordin¢¥s femur indices which were calculated in all of our series, were corresponded to the grade of Manmohan¢¥s trabecular pattern.
